How to Get a Head Without Hunting
Singing Coyote Head Sculpture
Add a smile to your Southwest decor with this singing coyote!

Because our home in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California is often serenaded by coyotes that sound like they’re having a party, our artist Merikay was inspired to create the happy creature shown at right.

This handmade singing coyote head sculpture is built upon a lightweight mixed media base. Merikay paints its eyes and forms its nose, teeth, and tongue from polymer clay.

If you order both the singing coyote and the laughing coyote, Merikay will design a pup for you as a special bonus!

About Coyotes
Coyotes live only in North America, but other small dogs such as the jackal in the Old World fill the same ecological niche. Coyotes are mostly carnivorous but will eat fruit when it’s available. In areas where there is only small prey, coyotes live singly or in mated pairs, but where there are large prey like deer and elk, they form packs of 6 to 16, with alpha males and females being the breeders as with wolves.

Coyotes sounds include staccato yelps, siren wails, barks, bark-howls, group yip-howls, and group howls1. The pack near our home in California has about six vocalists, but may include non-singing members. Some nights in summer when we have the windows open, they make it hard to sleep!
Laughing Coyote Head Sculpture
We call this one our laughing coyote.

The bib and muzzle of our laughing coyote are not as white as those of its singing friend above. Our artist Merikay hand makes the teeth, eyes, and nose in the same unique ways.

The coyote at right was purchased by a collector from a gallery in San Francisco.

Order both the singing coyote and the laughing coyote: they make a great couple!
