How to Get a Head Without Hunting
It’s
safe to keep zebras and gazelles in the same room with this
very realistic lion head sculpture. His teeth are not real!
Our artist
Merikay builds a paper-maché supporting sculpture for her
large realistic lion head. She uses only man-made furs in his construction,
and hand makes his eyes and nose. But his teeth and tongue are a commercial
taxidermy “jaw set”. The distinctive finishing touch is the
carefully cut and layered fur for his mane.
This version is new for January 2010.
Lions are the mascots for many teams and schools. What is your mascot animal?
Merikay might be able to use the logo of your team as a starting point for your
custom animal head commission.
About Lions
The Lion has long been called the “King of the Beasts”. Currently
their range is limited to reserves and parks in Africa. Male lions are considerably
larger than females, weighing up to 530 pounds (240 Kg.) and standing up to 4 feet
(1.2 m) at the shoulder.
Lions are fully carnivorous, with females being the hunters while the males’
role mostly involves fighting off other males, plus helping to eat what the females
catch.
This
large classic lion head sculpture is
also built over a hand-made mixed media base, and its pelt
is Persian Kurl. Its natural jute mane, nose, and expressive eyes are also hand made.
A built-in wire loop makes for easy mounting on a home or office wall.
This is one of our oldest designs. Since it is not as three-dimensional as the
other lion design, buyers have found it works well even in smaller rooms.
